Leave behind complex star maps, inaccurate planetarium apps, and computerized mounts. With StarSense Explorer, locating celestial objects has never been easier, faster, or more accurate. Within minutes of setting up the telescope, you can confidently navigate the skies. Simply place your phone in the unique StarSense dock and launch the StarSense Explorer app. After aligning your phone with the telescope's optics (a quick, 2-minute process), StarSense Explorer will generate a list of currently visible celestial objects. Select one, and arrows will appear on the screen to guide you while moving the telescope. When the object is ready for viewing, the spot in the target turns green.
Smartphone Compatibility
StarSense Explorer operates with most modern smartphones, including iPhone 6 and newer models, as well as most devices running Android 7.1.2 or later, manufactured since 2016.
StarSense Sky Recognition Technology
StarSense Explorer uses proprietary technology and your smartphone to accurately determine where the telescope is pointed in the night sky. The lost-in-space algorithm (LISA), similar to those used by satellites in orbit to correctly reorient themselves, helps the app match star patterns overhead to its internal database.
While other astronomy apps may claim to help you find objects, they rely solely on your phone's gyroscopes and accelerometers, which are not as accurate as LISA technology. No other app can accurately tell you when your target is visible in the eyepiece.
Sturdy Altazimuth Mount
The simple altazimuth mount of StarSense Explorer LT makes moving the telescope to find your target easier. A slow-motion altitude adjustment knob helps precisely adjust the telescope's directional position and track targets as they appear to drift across the night sky. All this is secured by an adjustable, full-height tripod.
Stunning Views with High-Quality Optics
Through this 127 mm refractor, you can expect sharp, bright views. Fully coated glass optics provide increased light transmission, enhancing details in celestial objects.
Great for City or Dark Sky Observing
Even if you live in a city with light pollution, StarSense Explorer is advanced enough to view Jupiter, Saturn, Venus, the Orion Nebula, double stars, and a few other famous celestial objects.
However, if you can take the telescope to a slightly darker place, more objects will become visible. The entire telescope kit weighs only 5.17 kilograms, making it completely portable and easy to take on your next camping trip or to a remote observing site.
