The darkfield technique in stereomicroscopy is used for gemological research in order to evaluate and detect the hidden defects in precious, semi-precious, and ornamental stones. The darkfield condenser is installed above the transmitted light illuminator into the base of the stereomicroscope in place of the transparent insert.
